Faith over Fear

Faith over fear!  Faith over fear!  I've heard that statement many times throughout my life, and I've shouted it many times.

I've struggled with doubt in my abilities throughout my life.  So many times the doubt turns in to fear.  Fear if I plan an event no one will show up.  Fear of what someone might say as I try to befriend them.  Fear of stepping out into new territory.  Fear, fear, fear!

In Matthew 25:14-30, Jesus shares the parable of the talents. A master is about to leave on a journey and he gives responsibility to his servants giving one 5 talents, another 3 talents and finally 1 talent "...depending on each one's ability."  Later we see the master return to settle up accounts with those servants.  The first turns 5 into 5 more, 3 into 3 more and the last servant tells the master he knows the master is a harsh man so he was afraid and went out an buried the talent.

Needless to say, the master is livid with this servant and says in verse 26, "His master replied to him, ' You evil, lazy servant! If you knew that I reap where I haven't sown and gather where I haven't scattered, then you should have deposited my money with the bankers and I would have received my money back with interest when I returned."

I can't count the number of times where these words have been true for me.  God's given me ideas or told me to do something and I've let fear creep in and not done the Lord's work.  Basically, God has said to me and says in this passage, "Do something, anything! Don't stand there and do nothing!"  What opportunities did I miss to help lead someone into the Kingdom?  What opportunities did I miss to see God work in someone's life and be blessed in knowing I got to be a part of His work?

God is calling us to do something.  He's calling His church and every believer to just do something.  What is it God is calling you to do in 2021?  We've spent months of our recent past uncertain about things to come and maybe overly cautious.  Nothing is certain except at the end of this life we will pass from this one into eternity.  Don't live with fear being the force behind what you will or won't do.  There is a fine line between being cautious and living in fear.

Be cautious, but hear what the voice of God is telling you to do and go do it...without fear.  Live in faith knowing what God calls you to do He will carry you through it.

"For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but one of power, love, and sound judgment." 2 Timothy 1:7
